What is a marrow ?

Lets consult the Oxford English Dictionary for this one :

Marrow n.1.large fleshy striped gourd eaten as a vegetable. 2.soft fatty substance in the cavities of bones.

Yes its number 1.

The origin of the marrow

The Texan wild marrow, Cucurbita texana, with small hard-skinned fruits, is viewed as an ancestor of the garden marrow. Archaeological finds in Mexico indicate cultivation of the small-seeded varieties around 7000-5000 BC. As soon as 50 years after the discovery of the Americas, numerous cultivated varieties were distributed in Europe. The bushy variety known as zucchini (courgette) produces elongated cucumber-like fruit. In contrast to pumpkin, stems and leaves are mostly very hairy. The flesh of the fruit contains fibers and does not fall apart on boiling.

What are people saying about marrows :

'I like marrow on mondays but only after ive seen a llama. If this does not happen i fall out of the nearest tree and proceed to eat the nearest hedgehog. 'I think marrows are great, you can boff the missus with them whilst watching the footy, then the little lady can pop off to the kitch and use it to make you a pie for half time... Now you can't say that about many things !'

'Me and james love marrows not just in an edible way but in a spiritual way also,we feel the marrow is a vegetable on a higher plain.'

'I would like to ask the people who are writing such slanderous and upsetting things about marrows to stop immediately as my husband is getting very upset. You don't understand how much a marrow is a way of life and yes you can mock and make fun of people like us who love marrows and all they stand for but it hurts us when you cut so deeply with your slurs. I myself have been married to a marrow for 2 years now and people still haven't come to terms with it. I put up with the slander on my mixed race marriage because I love him. He is such a sensitive marrow and comments like this just throw him into a deep depression and I couldn't cope with loosing him to sleep with his ex marrow which is what he did last time something like this happened. So I am appealing to you all to please think before you post on this site as marrows deserve equal rights to us. Thanks Mrs Dolly Sykes'

'The Marrow originated in South America in the 12th century, however the first plant wasn't readily available until the 19th century. Here in England around 1884 early scientists proved that the Marrow was actually created for more potent reasons than they had first thought. They had discovered that the Marrow was actually cross breeding with other South American plants and had been transformed into a gateway drug. It has grown to giant proportions over recent decades and is now as commen in school playgrounds as carrots or peas. Recent news stories have proved that Marrows can be as addictive as "Crack", "Smack" or even the killer "Leek". However after a revamp of British Laws it has now been proved that you cannot die from a lethal dose of Marrow and from May next year the law will be change and you will no longer be arrested for possesion. Please take note of this warning and until May of next year - KEEP THAT MARROW IN YOUR POCKET.'

'I for real. Marrows is bad ass gangster. Bo!'
